Product Description Do you get tired of emptying your closet for your hand vacuum just so people won't see the eyesore lying around? Well, thanks to Dirt Devil you can reclaim your dignity. Dirt Devil had famed product designer Karim Rashid create the KONE, a cordless hand vac unlike any you've seen. It is an elegant, sculptural form that can be left on display - on your table, shelf, or counter. That way, your hand vac will always be charged and ready for use. No more searching a closet only to find an unplugged unit. The top of this sleek, sculptural piece is the handle of the hidden vacuum; it easily twists off the plug-in charging base. There are never any bags to replace; instead, Kone has a permanent, washable bin. The tip is rubberized for close cleaning without scratching surfaces. The power cord is hidden on a wrap under the 8" diameter base. Who is Karim Rashid? He is a leading figure in the fields of product, interior, fashion, furniture, and lighting design. He is best known for bringing his democratic design sensibility public use. Designing for an impressive array of clients from Alessi to Georg Jensen, Umbra to Prada, Miyake to Method, Karim is radically changing the aesthetics of product design and the very nature of the consumer culture. With numerous design awards, his work is in the permanent collections of 14 Museums worldwide including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco. The Dirt Devil Kone is his most recent accomplishment in adding excitement, color, and ease-of-use to the hand-vac. Dirt Devil 3 -Year Manufacturer's Warranty (Parts and Motor) Charcoalmpagne color

I don't know how I ever lived without it! January 1, 2009 I absolutely love the kone, it really does get the job done. I am a serious clean freak and I am constantly going around the house vacumming every little piece of dirt with my kone. I recieved it as a wedding gift and don't know how I ever survived without it. I don't know what all these other people are talking about. Mine works great!! I would recommend this product to anyone!!
Poor design, defective battery January 1, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ours was a gift from my wife's mother. I should disclose that I am not a fan of rechargeable vacuums, since they always seem to be a tradeoff of the convenience of not having a cord vs. weak suction and poor battery life. We tried to return this one but without a receipt, no one was willing to take it back.
The first problem, as others have mentioned, is the design. Good vacuum design should be focused on function and ergonomic, and this one fails on both fronts.
First, the vacuum exhaust blows downwards and out. The result is that the exhaust often scatters the dust/hair/dirt you're trying to sweep up. Second, it's actually very hard to use. The cone shape makes a poor handle, and the on/off switch is at the top of the cone, which requires you to use both hands (one to hold it, one to turn it off). You also have to pay attention more when putting it back in the charger, since it's perfectly round and if you don't put it back exactly right, it doesn't recharge.
My biggest issue is the battery. It is by far the weakest of any rechargeable we've owned (I've had 2 dustbusters and now this one). We tried to use it this morning and it started dying 30 seconds into a cleanup. Our vac is less than a year old and this shouldn't happen. It's very infuriating and our Kone is destined for a landfill.
Finally, the vacuum opening is a round opening and it doesn't have any attachments. It is very limiting.
Dirt Devil spent too much time thinking about a "stylish" design and not enough time building a vac that works. It's a plastic cone -- not a marble sculpture -- and function should always come first.
Worth every dime! December 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was shocked to read reviews for the Dirt Devil KONE with less than 5 stars. I've had mine for a year and have been completely satisfied with its powerful performance. It's perfect for removing hair and crumbs....just sucks it right up. Great for removing my 2 yr old's Cheerios and Goldfish in the car. It's chic, blends in with room decor. Other reviewers stated it was loud. Vacuums aren't meant to whisper. Have realistic expectations and you're sure to be pleased with the KONE. I seriously don't believe it matters whether your right or left handed. My husband and I have no problems with it.
loses power so fast! November 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After a few months of use this vacuum only works for about 3 or 4 minutes before needing to be recharged. I'm about to throw mine away. It's a shame because it really is the most attractive hand vacuum out there.
Sparks! yikes! November 15, 2008 I think this thing was made by satan himself. I think it's unsafe if you have kids or pets in the house and I'll leave it at that. If you do buy it, I would recommend keeping it UNPLUGGED AT ALL TIMES. It's a known electricity zapper on top of everything else. I would recommend NOT keeping it in a place where it can be easily accessed by kids or animals or knocked over by anyone. Make sure you read the "Important Safety Instructions" because I think you'll find some startling info in there as well.
