Product Description The game is played on a hex board. 120 equally sized pieces, each consisting of two joined hexes come with the game. There are symbols on each hex that makes up the piece, some pieces have two identical symbols, some have two different symbols. The pieces go into a cloth bag so that they get drawn randomly. Each player receives six pieces to start the game, which are placed onto a rack and visible to them alone. The goal of the game is, through clever placement, to obtain points in the different symbol colours. Points are claimed by placing a piece such that the symbols on it lie next to already-placed pieces with the same symbol. Pieces are placed onto any open spaces. So, for example, if a player places a piece with a purple circle on it such that it sits next to an unbroken line of four other purple circles already on the board, then the player scores four purple points. A newly placed symbol can lie next to at most five individual rows of symbols. Each player uses a scoring track to keep track of his points, one track for each colour going from 1 to 18. If a player reaches the 18th space with any colour, then he gets to call out Ingenius and take another turn. At the end of their turn, players draw as many tiles out of the bag as required to bring their rack back up to six. The game ends when no more tiles can be placed onto the board. Now each player looks to see how many points they scored in the colour they scored the least in. Whoever has the most points in their least scored colour is the winner. Simple. The author of the game has also come up with solitaire and team play, in which two teams of two play with each player not being able to see his partners tiles.

MUST have family game September 21, 2008 My cousin introduced me and my boyfriend to this game. Since then, I have purchased it for myself and two other people. I absolutely LOVE it. It is a little difficult to pick up and figure out how to play on your own, but once you "get it" it is by FAR one of the most fun and enjoyable games to play. It is nice because it is a game of luck and some skill. Many games are easy to master and then blow all of your greenhorn competition away. This game has enough "luck of the draw" and such, that a first time player can beat a seasoned player. It is my favorite board game.
Ingenious is tops in board games in our house! August 8, 2008 We first played this German boardgame with friends on a home-made board. Had so much fun (all seniors!) that we had to have one of our own. We were not disappointed! It is challenging, but simple to learn. Game pieces are easily moved out of position unless all players are very careful, but has not detracted from the enjoyment of the game. I actually put a line of craft glue around the outer perimeter to help hold things in place! For anyone who enjoys Sequence or TriOminos, this is even better!
Shared enthusiasm January 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The principles of the game are easy to grasp, the number of potential players is flexible, the ability to set a time limit is useful and overall the game is not too taxing whilst being great fun.
Family Fun September 24, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I decided to purchase this board game for my parents who are senior citizens (in their early to mid 70s). I was looking for a new activity that would be fun and could help keep their minds sharp. "Ingenious" definitely fits the bill: it's proving to be both fun and challenging. At first, translating the instructions into actual play was a little tricky. But by the second reading, things started coming together and games were quickly under way. This game challenges your reasoning skills, spatial orientation, and ability to strategize and think ahead. And true to some of the reviews I had read prior to my purchase, it does have a certain addictive quality to it; simply stated, it's fun to play!

This is a very fun game. Especially for people who like domino type games. It has stratigy involved along with a little luck of the tiles you get. You can advance your own peaces or chose to block others from moving theirs. The hardest part is making sure you count all your points correctly. It is very easy to miss points.
