Amazon.com Review When is an electronic piano more than just a piano? When it's the Blue Man Group Keyboard Experience. This 37-key synthesizer keyboard offers a variety of instrument voices, including organ, guitar, trumpet, violin, strings, drums, slap bass, and others. Motion-sensitve tubes line the top and side of the keyboard. These tubes are used by waving your hands in front of them and can function as different drum voices, to "remix" one of the ten pre-programmed songs, or to adjust tempo and volume. It's a lot of fun to hit a drum snare or cymbal without actually touching anything, but it lacks the ability to simultaneously play both the drum and piano, cutting one off for the other. As for remixing the pre-programmed songs, motion in front of the tubes merely shuts on or off the different orchestral voices--nice, but not very useful. The little iPod drawer under the keyboard is a surprising feature--the built-in headphone plug pumps tunes from your music player (iPod or other) through the keyboard's speakers so you can play along to your favorite song. There's also a stereo out port, so you can pipe the music big into a home theater set-up or small into a pair of headphones. A bonus DVD of the Blue Man Group playing their instruments is included to inspire your creativity. --Porter B. Hall

Fun August 11, 2008 I can't really speak to this as a toy. I bought it on impulse (on eBay), and my intention was to hack it up and use the keyboard in another project. But I've been showing it off around work and to friends and people really, really have fun playing with it.
First off, it's very cool looking, and pretty solid. Second, the sensors are not easy to play properly, but they are a hoot to work with. Thirdly, the pre-programmed melodies are very amusing but only for a few minutes. After that, you are left with a clunky keyboard, average voices, and trying to play proper drums on the touchy sensors.
As a conversation piece or Christmas toy, great. As a functional musical instrument -- well, I'm finding it a good challenge to play the sensors properly, so there's some value there. Educational? Well, the pre-programmed stuff does let you switch in and out parts and I suppose that gives you some insight as to how a symphonic work is constructed. But that end would be better served with different software.
Summing up, it's really a grab-bag of ideas that was never properly target-tested. But it is geeky fun enough, for long enough, to be worth a few bucks.
BMG Instrument March 1, 2008 I am a blueman fan a little and I collected this for Christmas 2006. It comes with an exclusive instrument DVD availible no where else, you can play an iPod on this thing ( laong with the iTunes exclusive CDs ) and if you have ever seen the comerical for this, you will get an inspiration on a song choice. It has shadow sensing, where you put your hand over the tube and it makes a sound, this is a good collector.

What a great toy January 21, 2008 The box it came in was mangled but the keyboard was in perfect shape. It took awhile to get it out of the box.(VERY well attached)It is very sturdy product and does so many things.Sometimes just used to practice the keyboard or listen to his MP3.
Fun for anyone January 18, 2008 I bought this thing at a re-sale store for 25 cents! I left musical voice-mails for everyone I knew (Some people actually enjoyed them). After having the keyboard several months I still keep finding new things it will do. However, because I have played the heck out of it there is a short that has developed and the keyboard will cut off as it wishes. But I got my money's worth a long time ago.
fun! January 12, 2008 It is just plain fun. We are not into BM Group, but the piano is fun. The 10 year old likes it and so does the 4 year old. Ok, the grownups do too. Great for introducing playing music to kids.
