Great Cube, amazing challenge November 30, 2008 This is a very high quality cube. I took it apart easily after using it for around thirty minutes and managed to lubricate it. After I lubed it, edge pieces started falling out, and that's the source of my 3/5 rating for durability, but it's definitely understandable. Another part of the bad durability rating is the difficulty of turning the cube quickly, but that isn't very bad - I've been practicing for two days and already have a record of 124 seconds. Not too hard to solve, but not too easy. Great price as well; a definite "Yes!" from my perspective.
Poor quality November 17, 2008 During my first solve, a piece popped and the entire thing fell apart. It was very difficult to put back together, so I simply returned. Also, the cube was very tight, and it was very difficult to move layers. I would recommend an Eastsheen cube instead.
4x4 Cube October 24, 2008 The cube was not built very well at all. I had to put it back together twice before I could solve it without it falling apart.
4x4 Rubik's cube a bigger challenge than expected! October 21, 2008 As an 11-year-old, my daughter learned to solve the classic (3X3) Rubik's cube in nothing flat, and so had requested the 4x4 for her 12th birthday. It has proven more of a challenge than she'd expected, and I notice she's not using it as often as I'd anticipated, not carrying it around with her after the first week nor focussing (yet) much on its possible solutions. But when I asked her for comments to enter here, she was very enthusiastic and affirmative. One issue is that she cannot turn it as quickly as the 3x3, not just due to its larger size, but also to the inherent greater stresses in the construction (and good that the product description warns of its comparative delicacy.) But Amazon offers it at a good price (glad to see these puzzles alongside the books and DVDs!) and I expect it will prove a favored occupation on a long train trip we'll be taking soon!
Rubik's Cube 4x4 September 14, 2008 My 12 year old son had mastered the standard 3x3 version long ago. His time at Summer Camp was coming to a close and I was concerned that he would spend his time glued to Guitar Hero, his Nintendo DS or the computer. I wanted something else to engage him. I purchased both the 4x4 and the 5x5 versions of the Rubik's cube. It is a month and a half later and he still is working at the 4x4. It has really engaged him. We also learned that he might be able to use this for this year's science fair project; using math or algorhytms to solve Rubik's cube. Great toy! Good educational link to math and spatial relations.
