5 out of 5 stars Dinah Would've Been So Proud   August 4, 2007

The past several years have been a bit difficult for Deborah Cox. One of the most soulful vocalists in R&B hasn't been on the radio or MTV in years. Although she has maintained her presence in other projects, including acting in the Broadway production of Elton John & Time Rice's Aida during its final days in 2004-2005. Nevertheless, it has been so long since her last record The Morning After was released, and unfortunately flopped. Although she left Arista, she recently tried a transformation from a R&B / Hip Hop diva, into a elegant songstress, and the transformation worked on this album.

Destination Moon, Debroah Cox's 2007 album is one of the hidden surprise records relased this year, that really does deliver very well. Her debut on the classic standards label Decca Records, delivers with a bang. The album showcases Deborah paying tribute to the late songbird Dinah Washington, with elegance and beauty. The album brings a classy elegance that hasn't shined this bright since Natalie Cole's Unforgetable With Love, and is well delivered through Deborah's smooth voice, and the orchestral mix from each track. The album includes some really great tracks here from the title track, Destination Moon, as well as Squeeze Me, the somber and well-crafted Look To The Rainbow, and Blue Skies, as well as a silky rendering of Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, a song which was more popular from The Platters. This special edition, which is exclusively sold from Napster and Circuit City also includes the soul-driven Out Of Sight Out Of Mind, which adds to Deborah's masterpiece.

My only problem with Destination Moon is that it is very short. Deborah Cox delivers such a sensual performance here, it leaves die hard fans and newcomers going crazy for more. I really love this album a whole lot, and I was blown away with the album. While so many more people will consider records from Kelly Clarkson and Beyonce' that are just more about hype, Destination Moon delivers in the performance and passion of the album. This is definitely one of the best records for 2007, and a real rare treat. This is Deborah's best album yet, and looking to this rainbow, I absolutely see a pot of gold.
