Thank ya, thank ya very much! December 2, 2008 I'm a big E fan and I love anything Elvis, so I'm probably oblivious to any flaws. ;) But you can judge for yourself with a sneak preview here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h30z1CuYCkM&feature=channel
Merry Christmas everyone!
Well done December 1, 2008 Well done and I enjoyed it very much. Played it 5 times the first day and will play frequently over the holidays.
Elvis Christmas Duets December 1, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was very excited about this release. I imagined something a little better quite frankly. It seems like the guest artists were told where to sing as so not to change the essence of Elvis' original performances. I would have enjoyed hearing them trade off lines rather than Elvis singing alone so much, I mean we have his vocals already. Additional instrumentation was a nice touch giving new life to some monophonic recordings. I wish the gals had been permitted an opportunity to really get into a duet with Elvis....And why not a duet with any male artists as well? Not all these pairings blended well together. For example, Anne Murray sang a verse in Elvis' key, but it sounded too low for her. It would have been a great pairing to have Ann-Margret do one too. Or Vince Gill, Shania Twain, Tom Jones, and many other greats whose voices would have mixed well with Elvis. It was an ok project that could've been outstanding.
Very enjoyable! November 28, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm 55 years old and have been listening to Elvis my whole life. I heartily recommend this CD to all. Yes, it is yet another shameless move by the industry to make more bucks off Elvis. Yes, it is not "pure" Elvis. And yes, it is well worth purchasing because it works! It sounds like Elvis is coupled with all these modern vocalists making holiday music for fans to enjoy. And it is enjoyable! I also think it will be just one more way to bring new fans to Elvis, much like the remixes have. That is not all bad!
Being spoiled, but very enjoyable! November 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have read all of the reviews here and unfortunately, the man is not here anymore, but his legacy lives on. So those who are purists do have a bias and are asking why spoil or alter a good thing?
All of the artists that Presella Presley selected were chosen on their merits and their love for music. Yes, it is sometimes hard to get the synergy recorded on the disk when one is not present, but these recordings further resonate the legacy and the appreciation of Elvis as a driving force in music.
So since I am not catholic and have two dozen or more Christams albums on CD-ROMS, this new album only adds more thrills and chills to my collection. Carie Underwood and Martina McBride are not flashes in the pan. They have sold millions of singles and albums and have won numerous Country Music Awards!
I think the Presley Estate did Elvis proud and in all fairness, the recordings are memorable and have a lot of family and holiday value. Come on, stop bitching and celebrate the holiday spirit. There's enough turmoil in the world!
