Given the sheer volume and varying quality of his recorded output, not to mention his weird behavior, it's easy to overlook the fact that Prince is one of the great talents of the last quarter century--a fact underlined in earnest by this galvanizing performance. The guy has always had a preternatural ability to channel R&B and rock legends like Sly Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and James Brown (cf. this performance's amazing "Money Don't Matter 2 Night/The Work"); now he's added more sophisticated flavors to the mix as well, ranging from George Benson to Steely Dan and Weather Report, and all without sacrificing his own voice. Add to that covers of the Ohio Players' "Love Rollercoaster" and Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" (really), all played by Prince and his smokin', skin tight band, and what you get is one of the best shows of 2002, or any other year. Extraordinary. --Sam Graham

4 out of 5 stars If you look up cool in the dictionary, you'll see Prince   March 4, 2008
This guy is the epitome of cool. Always great live. This show is a little diff. but great just the same. The guitar tune he does at the end is worth the price of the dvd.

5 out of 5 stars Prince Live   January 8, 2008
You get to see Prince's true talent. His isn't a flashy non-talented musician as most people assume. This concert is more Jazz oriented. Excellent choice if you can get passed Prince's previous behavior in the 1980s and early 1990s.

5 out of 5 stars Rave un2 the DVD fantastic   October 30, 2007

I just finished watching this and I'm at a loss for words. It is absolutely outstanding in every respect - the set list, the musicians, the sound quality, you name it. The only way it could be better is if it was twice as long and had Rhonda Smith's home phone number.

5 out of 5 stars Great Concert Video   September 5, 2007

I've not really followed Prince or been a fan of his music, but a friend and fellow musician of mine is, and I'd often heard that Prince is a great live performer, so I decided to get this video to check him out.

This is a GREAT performance with a great band. Prince basically revs up the room, brings audience members onstage to dance, continually drives the band with cues to start and stop, plays great guitar licks and solos and chatters on throughout, in complete control and grooving the whole way through.

I would highly recommend this video to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars A Genius matured!   August 21, 2007
What a delightful concert this is. Gone are the flamboyant, colorful clothing and raunchy lyrics. Prince looks smart in his pinstriped suit and is in a cheeky, mischievous mood.
The music is more funky and jazz oriented than anything I've seen him perform before. Even more self-assured, this is a more mature musical performance. His rendition of Got a Broken Heart again is pure magic. His falsetto note gives way to a beautiful sax piece by Maceo Parker. There is a wide variety of music with some very funky jams, a superb cover of Whole Lotta Love inwhich Prince gives an astounding guitar riff that gives Jimmy Page a good run for his money.
The DVD is completed by an extremely mischievous bonus track; The Ride.
Although Prince seems to have eschewed the raunchy sexual lyrics of yesterday (because of his religion), this song just oozes inuendo. His guitar work is phenomenal and screams more sexual energy than any explicit lyrics could ever convey.
I think this DVD is a masterpiece and I have watched it dozens of times without losing the sense of fascination and pleasure I had on the first viewing.
