Product Description The Lightwedge uses a distortion-free, optical grade, acrylic lens with an LED edge light to create an even in. pane in. of light over the entire page you are reading. There's no glare and no stray light to disturb others so it's perfect for use on airpla
Amazon.com Review For avid readers who have spent many an hour squinting in dim light, LightWedge created this innovative LED book light. It lies flat on the book page, creating the impression that the book itself glows while illuminating each word without distortion or glare. Compatible with books of all sizes, the book light minimizes readers' optical duress and discomfort whether brightening a thick, new hardback or used paperback. Equipped with LED technology, this book light eliminates the problem of faulty or burnt out bulbs associated with many other book lights. Four AAA batteries power the book light for up to 40 hours, making it an ideal companion for a long flight or car ride. The book light features a high quality acrylic lens, a similar construction to that of a pair of reading glasses. Two levels of brightness enable readers to adjust the book light to suit particular environments and optical capabilities with a simple, one-touch button. For best results, clean the book light like other optical equipment with a lens cleaner and a soft, micro-fiber cloth. Storing the book light within a book or a protective case prevents scratches, dust and other debris from obstructing the lens surface, while extending the light's longevity. Batteries are not included with the book light. The book light measures 6-3/4 by 9-1/4 inches and weighs 8-1/2 ounces. --Jessica Reuling

A Tad Heavy Wedge September 2, 2008 Like some of the other folks reviewing the light wedge, I was initially excited about the product but immediately let down. The concept is great and the amount of light on the page is good. However, when I received the wedge it was loaded with dust and scratches (distracting to read through); furthermore, the dust on my wedge could not be wiped off (it was sandwiched in the plastic lens). A light wedge made slightly lighter, more comfortable to hold, and dust free would be great. All in all, I anticipated a higher quality product.
Scratches too easily August 31, 2008 Light is ok but the plastic used to provide light and see through scratches way too easily.. Should have been made out of glass.
great reading light June 21, 2008 I have purchased several reading lights and always found myself either needing a brighter light, or having to adjust the position so I could read all the letters on a page. I recently discovered the lightwedge and love it. It provides light across the entire page (because it lays on top of the page) there is no adjusting of anything to get to the end of the page. Because the lightwedge lies on top of the page being read, highlighting or inserting notes is a little challenging but it can be done.
OK for me May 14, 2008 I rated this as a 4 from my perspective and experience. Not everyone may feel this positive.
The light may not directly shine into someone else's eyes, but one has to move the wedge away from the book and then back again on the next page. Inevitably this movement of pages is going to make some noise. This noise may either wake up someone or keep them awake. I use the wedge primarily when I experience insomnia and go to another room to read during the night.
The light provides plenty of illumination for me to read. However, I am one of the few people over 70 years old who does not require so-called reading glasses to read. So I am able to hold the book quite close to my eyes and there is no loss of illumination because of distance. Those who are far-sighted may have a different experience.
Yes, the device is easily scratched, but I did not find those scratches evident when I placed the wedge against the pages of a book.
The batteries do last for quite a while and I have not found them difficult to install.
I am quite happy with the device.
not useful for bedtime reading February 18, 2008 My wife bought this for me so that I would be able to read at night without keeping the lights on. I read both magazines and fictional books, which are smaller in dimension. There are 2 problems with this product: 1) It is NOT 1-size-fits-all. It was not easy to use this lightwedge with the smaller fictional books. So I would have to buy another $25 wedge for the smaller size. 2) It also requires 4 AA batteries which make the black grid-end of the wedge heavier. This caused the lightwedge to keep slipping while trying to read lying down.
On the other hand, if you're looking to just read on a plane or elsewhere sitting up, then this product is good. We, however, returned this and are looking for other alternatives.
