Still waiting for somthing.... January 4, 2009 Well......I've had the unit operational for a while now and the only thing that I have any photo evidence of is my face, so I know the "manual" function works. I've never seen the flash operate in any lighting condition. The little mini booklet of instructions are a bit brief. Lots of "what it does" but very little "how to do it". I get the message from many of these reviews that their are quality problems with this unit. Certain functions not working. I hope mine isn't another victim. There are two unit models, the d40 and d50. I don't know which one I have because nowhere on the device is there any markings that tell you what one you have. The instructions refer to both so you have to do a bit of guessing. Overall, this isn't a highly complicated piece of electronic equipment. Its easy enough for the less-than-tech savey person to set up. I'll write an update to this review as soon as I get a deer or something to cross its path. I have lots of critters running around so I hope it's not too long... By the way, even though the instructions imply it, there is no USB patch cable supplied, just the tv jack adapter.
Moultrie Game Spy D-40 December 21, 2008 A great game camera for the money. Easy to setup and use. The batteries seem to last forever, unlike my previous cams. The picture quality is good without many false triggers, and the video's are great, but only 9 seconds long. The delay seems a little long at times, but maybe it was the way the subject approached the cam. The main negative is the mounting straps, they are cheap, and don't return to their original size after use. I carry extra bungee cords which are cheap to buy. We are using 2 of these now, and the white flash seems to have no effect on the animals .
Good camera December 16, 2008 The camera takes good pictures and is easy to use. The only problem with the camera is the date/time on the pictures is usually not legible.
Best camera out there for the price December 16, 2008 I've had this camera for a long time now and it hasn't ever had problems and the motion sensor isn't screwed up like the other ones i've bought in the past. It only takes a picture if wildlife shows up. Buy it!
Amazing Camera December 7, 2008 The photo quality is much better than I was expecting. I'm on my second unit. The first's IR didn't work and I had over 1,000 shots over one night. Amazon customer service had a new unit out that day. Been using it for about a week in sub-freezing weather with great results. So far have shots of deer, racoons and even a blue jay. The night flash is especially good and works automatically. Very easy to aim (2 options) and program. Had it up and shooting in about 5 minutes. For the serious hunter, sure, but also great fun for the rest of us.
