Amazon.com Review
When is a clock not just a clock? When it provides so much more than just the time: temperature, phase of the moon, and accuracy within one second per year, for example. This handsome wall clock, with its dual LCD screens and black-accented brushed aluminum finish, is an example of household life being enhanced by science. The WS-8117U-AL can hang on the wall or stand freely, with a built-in, fold-out stand. Radio-controlled time (to the hour, minute, and second) and date are prominently displayed, along with indoor and outdoor temperatures measured in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. The day of the week can be displayed in English, French, Spanish or German.

Time can be displayed in 12- or 24-hour modes, and time zones from Greenwich Mean Time to -12 GMT can be selected, with three-letter identifications for US time zones. An alarm feature is useful as a timer, and, if the clock happens to hang or stand near a bed (or a couch that's used for napping), a snooze feature allows for gradual wake-up. Moon phase shows in twelve increments, from new moon, through gibbous and crescent phases (waxing and waning), to quarter and finally full moon.

The clock comes with La Crosse wireless transmitter TX37U-IT. Clock and transmitter each operate on two AA batteries. For options in wall mounting, three screws and screw anchors and a strong adhesive tape are included. The WS-8117U-AL measures 12-1/4 by 8 by 1-1/4 inches. La Crosse provides a one-year limited warranty on its clocks. Each clock comes with a thoroughly detailed instruction booklet. --Garland Withers

4 out of 5 stars Outdoor temp reader not working.   January 6, 2009
I had recieved one as a gift a few years ago. About a year after having it, the outdoor temp reader went bizerk. Most of the time there are only 2 dashes where the temp should show. Sometimes, the number display counts from 0 to 59 continuously. Overall, if the outdoor temp continued to work, I would purchase it again. I love how large the numbers are-very easy to read across the room.

5 out of 5 stars Love the Clock   January 5, 2009
Hey, just got both of these today and I set them and now I have a quiet clock, plus knowing what the temp is outside. I had two of those tick tick clocks which is annoying. Now I have quiet and love them. They were easy to set. Quality is great too.

4 out of 5 stars Not JUST a clock!   December 30, 2008

My friend Gabriel and I argued whether this atomic clock with remote temperature is the "Air Supply of atomic clocks with remote temperature" as he put it or--as I would assert--the "Hall & Oates of atomic clocks with remote temperature." This argument ended, as so often they do with Gabriel, with me pouring Ragu all over his hands.

I can see where the remote temperature feature would lead Ol' Spaghetti Sauce Hands to think of this clock as very "Lost in Love," or even "I'm All Out of Love." But don't tell me that the minute you plug in this beauty from La Crosse, you're not going to look in the mirror and say, "I just invested in the most wonderful atomic clock known to man! And I can rely on the old man's money. I can rely on the old man's money!" Because that is what you will say in the mirror.

My intolerance for Gabriel's assessment is inversely proportional to how well this clock tells atomic time and temperature. And you can take that to the bank, rich girls.

5 out of 5 stars Good product   December 27, 2008
This atomic clock works exactly as advertised. Only took about 10 minutes to get set up. Read the directions before you start putting in batteries and setting the time. You have to do it in a certain order to sync the external temp sensor. The external temp sensor signal has worked flawlessly. The sensor is outside my front door and the clock is in my basement with no problems getting the signal. Recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Much Better Than Expected   December 24, 2008
The dual-temperature setting is great. Other reviews mention problems with the outdoor sensor so I've not used it for such in fear of breaking it. However, I've been having heating problems throughout the house and use that remote sensor to gauge temperatures in different floors of the house and it works like a charm. Excellent use during the cold winter months when I need to know the temperature throughout the house so that I can provide sufficient heating. Oh, and the clock works just fine. This feels cheap and light but the look is high-quality and hey, can't beat the price. Only slight comment I'd have is the logo doesn't need to be so prominent but hey, no complaints here. Haven't test if the atomic clock function syncs correctly (I'm in NYC) but that's not a problem since I can always manually resync when the batteries finally die. The clock is now comfortably in my living room and I can finally tell time and temperature while watching TV on the couch!
