5 out of 5 stars LOVED IT   April 11, 2008
I absolutly loved this book. I don't read many books twice but I did with this one.
I first began reading this book christmas of '06. I didn't care much about Elvis at the time but I opened it up thinking I would read a page or two. Well, I ended up finishing it in a week. Four Elvis books later, this is still the best one I've ever read.
He got me so emotionally involved I couldn't put it down!

5 out of 5 stars Great book by a Great man   March 26, 2008
Jerry has done a great job with this book. He has always been genuine, honest, intelligent, and generally a pleasure to hear from. I'm so glad that more people have been able to enjoy his stories through this book. If you want a clear look at who Elvis really was, buy this book. Jerry knows as well as anyone, and tells the story probably better than anyone.

4 out of 5 stars A Good Read   March 24, 2008
I have to say this is a good read. Jerry told his story about his friendship with Elvis with such emotion, love and sensitivity that it really touched my heart like no other book I've read about Elvis.

The book left me feeling that I new more about Elvis then I thought was possible and I really felt the hurt when Jerry described the emotional pain he felt over Elvis' passing, it was truly heart breaking to hear about the funeral and the way he described Vernon's agony over losing his son.

It angered me how Jerry told about Tom Parker tampering with Elvis' music and how he refused to allow Elvis to tour overseas, the Movie offers Mr. Parker turned down or made such high demands of money to be paid to Elvis that it made it impossible for the studio to pay Elvis to star in the movies that Elvis had such high hopes to be in. How certain Doctors would prescribe Elvis medication just because he was Elvis and having no regards of his life.

I had no idea Jerry was on again - off again employee of Elvis'. I thought he was with Elvis always. The only thing that I can say I dislike about this book is that Jerry told a lot about his life when he was not working for Elvis and that really bored me. I didn't buy the book to read about Jerry's life I wanted to know more about Elvis.

Jerry was very careful not to reveal too much about Elvis personal side, things that Priscilla will never let happen. She allowed him to tell basically the same as every one else has in their books, he didn't get into the way the medication he was on would change him to a dark Elvis, he didn't reveal any details of Elvis' love life, I believe Lisa was mention two or three times in the whole book. Lisa was Elvis' pride but he never talked about her being around Elvis. He talked about Priscilla like she was a wonderful Angel that did nothing wrong.

The book was more of the business side of Elvis "The Image" not the real Elvis "The Man". I do believe Jerry loved Elvis and was a great friend and his loyalty to Elvis is still very much alive to this day, you can tell when he was being very careful about how he spoke of Elvis and what he revealed. It had EPE and Priscilla all over it.

Well all know Elvis was a human being and he had his faults and he wasn't a perfect man. But we love him anyway and that is what makes Elvis the King.

5 out of 5 stars One of the great Elvis books   March 12, 2008
If you are looking for a well written book about the King of rock and roll, look no further. This is a heart felt book from one of the King's true friends. If you are like me and tired of all the books dwelling on the tragic side of Elvis's life then read this book. It really gives a sense of what day to day life was like around the greatest entertainer of all times.

Love it, love it, love it.

3 out of 5 stars Jerry Schilling's book on Elvis   February 13, 2008
I didn't feel like there was much depth to this book. A large portion seemed to be more about the author than I expected and nearly all of the experiences he told about have been told by everybody else that ever wrote a book about Elvis. I appreciated the loyalty and the love that Jerry obviously had for Elvis but just wasn't impressed with his writting.
