The first and still best album from a talented but steadily declining soul diva October 5, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
One of the best albums of the 90s, this album had some of the most momentous crossover appeal ever. During its first couple of years it was all over black urban radio, yet it was tastefully restrained enough to have continued success on adult contemporary and soft rock radio stations to this day. "Another Sad Love Song", "Breathe Again", "You Mean The World To Me", "How Many Ways" and "Seven Whole Days" are among the true gems of contemporary R&B. Her next album, Secrets, had a couple of sizable hits and is generally good, if not as brilliant as this. However, after that, she was forced to declare bankruptcy, and since then, her quest to reclaim her wealth has resulted in a series of subpar albums that simply cannot touch the greatness of this one.
True Queen of R&B August 11, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Toni is such a soulful singer with a deep, rich sensual voice and I loved her style from day one. I don't think they'll ever be another artist that captured me like her. She had the voice, style, charisma, and the beauty. Artist like her can never be replaced. This album is filled with many great gems of the 90s when music had meaning. Babyface and the other producers picked the perfect singer for these excellent songs. This cd was a blueprint for how R&B albums should be and garned numerous grammys and other awards. The notable songs are "Another Sad Love Song", "Breathe Again", "Seven Whole Days", and "You Mean The World To Me." The whole album is wonderful and Toni's voice was in top-notch form throughout. The songs are completely sap-free and satisfying with R&B and jazzy arrangements. This cd is essential to your collection if you don't have it.
A Great Debut August 10, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Like many others out there, who remember Toni Braxton from the early 90s, and before she even started to grow her hair, I'm sure you may have been introduced to her in 1992, from the song, "Love Shoulda Brought You Home," or her duet with Babyface in, "Give You My Heart," both songs which are offered on the "Boomerang" soundtrack, which I thought I should add. Like many artists, the first album is sometimes the best one, or one of the better releases, probably because of the hunger to make it! Which I think may have been the case with this album, Toni was just putting out single-after-single on this album and that's what eventually made me buy it, or actually my dad, because I was too young at the time, but he bought it because there was so many good songs on the album! You had, "Love Shoulda Brought You Home," "Another Sad Love Song," "Breathe Again," "Seven Whole Days," "How Many Ways," which also had a remix, and "You Mean The World To Me." There's basically 11 songs on the album, and 6 out of 11 songs were released as singles, all the singles were hits, the only one that I think didn't do that well was, "How Many Ways," but there are basically more hits than filler on this album, and I think that's what a lot of Toni's more recent album have been missing, (but you usually had a hit back in the 90s if you worked with Babyface or LaFace records) and not just Toni Braxton, but a lot of other artists also. A lot of artists are concerned with just putting out a few major singles and the rest is whatever, not too many people care to make a well-rounded album.
Toni Braxton, was much younger at the time and still managed to sing about more mature things, and her experiences of going through a bad relationship, which led her to make, what I think is her best album! Toni found a way not just to appeal to a R&B audience, but also a pop audience, which helped her success. I think LaFace and there production really had a good thing going in the early 90s until the whole bankruptcy thing with Toni, TLC.
Remember this is just my opinion, and my view, so please don't jump all over me, if you don't agree!

Toni Braxton is a true superstar July 17, 2007 What can I say about this album? One word: exciting. Every track is pleasing to the ears. My favorite song on this album would have to be Breathe Again. Toni is truly a star, and I don't think many singers that are out right now can mess with Toni.
Toni hit on all cylinders with this album!!! February 13, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Toni,was NOT,ashamed,to show,that,it is not a crime,for a woman to show hurt,for being betrayed,by a lover...Most women today,think that it's the mark of a "weak"woman,to,admit to being hurt,by this heartless,act!!Everyone knows'that women,are creatures'of sheer emotion...Yet,the prevailent thought,among,"tough"women,is that NO man,could cause them emotional distress,under ANY circumstances!!With songs'such as "7 Whole Days"and "Love Shoulda Brought You Home"Toni basically says'"Hogwash"to that(silly)train of thought!! Toni expertly navigates'the razor-thin line,between,total emotional devastation/despair,and bravery,with a tinge of anger...(when one realizes'that it's NOT,the end of the world)...Toni,exudes'RAW emotion,in conveying this!! Especially,on "Seven Whole Days"where she emphatically says:"You knew that you were wrong..." "You're wrong...DEAD-Wrong!" "Tell me how,HOW can we go on?!?" On"Love Shoulda"this line cuts DEEP:"How CAN,you say that you're in love?!?" "YOU don't know,the MEANING of...." On"Love Affair"Toni lets'us know,that she's not gonna be some dudes'little side"trick"..She cites'that she couldn't respect herself,if she did that!! It,would behoove,a lot of young ladies',to listen carefully,to the lyrics'of this track!!Theres definitely something to be learned here!!!"Best Friend" touches'on how fickle,"friends"(as well as lovers')can be!!One can clearly see that Toni has experienced a lot,in her life,simply by noting,the various topics'she addresses,on this masterpiece,of an album,as well as the sincere PASSION,she exhibits',in the vocals'on this album!!Toni,gets madd props'from me,for this album,because,I've experienced,most of these dilemmas'firsthand,so,I know EXACTLY,where shes' coming from,on each subject!!Excellent vocals'+True-to-life subject- matter=5 star album!!'Nuff Said!!
